To the editor:

The report "Veteran Democrats Form Group to Support Israel" (January 29) is good news not just for Israel but for the Democratic party, providing hope that it will not succumb to the anti-Israel fanaticism of some of its newest stars. I do wonder why the reporter decided to include comments from leaders of fringe groups like JVP and JStreet rather than mainstream Jewish organizations. I would also disagree with the strange characterization as "nuanced" of strongly anti-Israel positions and statements of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pramila Jayapal, including what the former incorrectly called the "occupation of Palestine" and the latter's criticism of Israeli self-defense; they are anything but nuanced.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein
